Am I operating out of a fixed or growth mindset?
For me personally I feel like I have a growth mindset. I have always found that I am constantly improving myself. When I think about the future, I always envision myself in a higher position once I have gained the necessary experience that I need. The whole reason I am pursuing a masters degree in ADL is because I want to be able to grow into more leadership roles in the future. I love my current job but I am still young and I want to explore the higher education world and see what is out there.
I constantly strive to make myself better in my career and I love looking to the future. I am always open to feedback and criticism and I use those things to improve what I am currently working on. Adopting the growth mindset changes the way you learn significantly. It makes it easier to accept criticism and feedback to make your work and school life better. We need to be teaching our students to always have the growth mindset because no matter what stage we are in life, we are always growing in some way shape or form.
When I go out to college fairs at high schools to recruit students, I am always asking them questions about their college interests and I am sometimes guiding them to ask the right questions. I feel like that is helping them adopt a growth mindset where they are constantly learning how to ask the right questions. Teachers and professors love to answer questions for students but students are shy so we need to teach them at an early age that it is always ok to ask a question. Teaching the growth mindset is very important and we need to strive to help our students grow.
