ePortfolio Blog Post Check in

Creating an ePortfolio has been an interesting challenge for me. I have used WordPress before to build my photography website so I had some experience with WordPress already which helped me. So far I have created my website and I have a small amount of posts that I have gone through. When I first started out with the ADL program I was confused. You can view it Just Starting Out on my blog page and learn how I started out in the program.

At first I was overwhelmed by all of the work that I had to accomplish but after attending the class meetings and getting feedback from the professor, I am slowly starting to understand how to succeed in the ADL program. I first started out in the second half of the Spring 2024 semester and I am currently in the ePortfolio class. As soon as I learned that I needed to create an ePortfolio I went to WordPress and created a whole new website so I could showcase my work. I struggled with how to create a menu at first. It was so difficult and sometimes I just wanted to give up. I eventually took to google to learn how to do it and after several tries I managed to make a menu.

Then came another roadblock. I needed to figure out how to add more than one menu under a certain menu tab. I scoured the internet for a while and I did not get a straight answer on how to create a sub menu. Eventually I found a site that had a video and took me step by step through the process of making a sub menu. I successfully managed to create one and that’s when my Innovation Plan assignment came along. For that assignment I needed to create categories in order to be able to post something under a sub menu. I struggled with this for a while because when I posted, it automatically went to my blog page where all the posts go. I figured it out after looking up several websites and now I will hopefully be able to continue adding projects to my site.

Once I created a sub menu and a whole website, I went back and started my About page and all of the other pages like my home page. Once I submitted my ePortfolio check in post, I got some feedback on how to improve my website so I added text and pictures to my pages and made the navigation process much easier. I changed the color to make it easier on the eyes and I made sure my font stayed consistent in the website. I got rid of a blank page and added things to my other blank pages to make it more appealing. I changed some of the menu names to make it easier to navigate. Throughout this whole course so far, I have posted a good amount of content and it is worth it when I see that my post gets views as people are reading it. It is going great for me and I am slowly gaining much more knowledge of WordPress and I am excited to continue my journey through ADL.
