When I first started EDLD 5317, I was caught off guard by how many assignments I had to complete in the short 8 weeks. It was more than I had done in a single class up till now. After I attended that first meeting though, the professor made it seem less scary, so I buckled down and got serious. I thought to myself that I was so close to graduating, I need to push through the class and give it my all which I did.
My expectations for this course were that it would be like all of the other courses I took for the degree plan. This course has proven more difficult than the other courses but I have managed to get through it. I submitted a total of 4 assignments and 5 discussions that I had with my group. I submitted an outline for an article, then a rough draft of it and I then submitted a podcast of the article for my media project. I just recently turned in my final assignment and am still waiting for the grade back. I also submitted my article for publication and I am hoping that it will get accepted.
I feel like my method of doing assignments is working great. I am finishing them early in the week and I am editing them before I turn in for a final grade. I was able to attend all of the class meetings and they really helped me narrow down what I needed to do for my assignments. Some things I can improve are my participations in the discussions. On the first one I didn’t do so well and made a mistake. The others I did better but I believe that I can still do better with participating more in the discussions.
I got a lot of feedback for my assignments in this class. For my Publication Outline, I got a 48/50 which I was proud of. I did however forget to add the requirements for the publication websites which I added later once I received the feedback. For the Publication Rough Draft, I got a 43/50 but I was confused on the way I was graded so I emailed the professor and there were mistakes made on the grading so I was able to get it up to a 47/50 which I was happy. I had a few reference problems but I fixed that and put that into my final draft. For the Media Project assignment, I decided to do a short podcast that explains my article and I got a 149/150. For the Final Draft, I submitted a copy of the article with all of the publication websites requirements. I also officially submitted the article for publication and I am now waiting to hear back to see if I was selected to be published.
For the discussions we were encouraged to get into groups so we could collaborate on our discussions. Together with Shirley Graham, Jennifer Haden, Guadalupe Marin and Thomas Robinson, we peer reviewed each other’s rough draft and we did video discussions with each other. I learned that I struggle with references and talking in discussions with the group members and that is definitely something that I can improve. My group members were so awesome and I wanted to give a shout out to Jennifer for scheduling all of the zoom meetings and organizing our discussions. There is nothing that I would change about the group and how we managed things.
So overall I believe that the course went well and turned out better than I thought it was gonna be at the beginning of the course. I am excited for my last class before graduation and I am going to strive to give it my all before I graduate. I loved working with my group and I am sad to see it end but I am excited for the next step.
